MAIBAYASHI: YUYA
An excerpt in formal wear to the accompaniment of the musical ensemble and a small chorus, Yuya, the mistress of Taira leader Munemori, accompanies him on a cherry viewing excursion to Kiyomizu temple though her mother is ill. While there she dances. A sudden shower causing blossoms to fall inspires her to recite a poem about her concern for her mother and Munemori to allow her to go home. |
KYOGEN: NE ONGYOKU
Servant Taro Kaja has a wonderful singing voice, but not wanting the Master to always be calling on him to entertain guests, insists he can only sing when drunk and in a prone position, his head resting on his wife’s knee. His Master wants to hear him sing to find out if this is really true leading to unexpected results…. |
NOH: YAMAMBA Hakuto
A dancer known for her interpretation of Yamamba, the Old Woman of the Mountains, the embodiment of the Buddhist thought of attachment as the cause of the phenomenal world, meets the actual Yamamba. Promising to portray the true nature of Yamamba, the dancer is rewarded when the Old Woman appears and dances describing her journey through the mountains through the seasons. |
